Proton Pump Inhibitors[ br] Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a group of prescription medications that prevent the release of acid in the stomach and intestines. Doctors prescribe PPIs to treat people with heartburn (acid reflux), ulcers of the stomach or intestine, or excess stomach acid (Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome).

H2 Blockers
H2 blockers, also called H2 receptor agonists, are medicines that reduce the amount of acid the stomach produces. They treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD.)

Antacids
Antacids work by neutralizing acid in the stomach. Antacids neutralize acid on contact to provide heartburn relief.

  1. Thank you for your post. Diet plays an important role for any given disease. Those suffering from acid reflux should refrain from spicy food. They should be adopting a more bland diet, and consume food that are easily digested.

    A good way to rid oneself from heartburn would be to drink potato juice every morning on an empty stomach for 10 days.   2. The diet discourages eating processed foods, coffee, alcohol and animal proteins. All things that we know can be issues when consumed in excess. So, the bottom line is that this acidic foods diet may provide some health benefits, but probably not for the reasons purported.
